The Surgeon

Double board-certified.

Dr. Vishal Banthia is certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Murrieta and Carlsbad, California.

BACKGROUND

Training

Dr. Banthia completed his undergraduate degree in chemistry with honors at Stanford University and earned his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. His surgical training in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery and in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery was completed at NewYork-Presbyterian — the university hospitals of Columbia and Cornell — at Stanford University, and at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

He holds board certification in both facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the California Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons, the California Medical Association, and the American Medical Association.

BOARD CERTIFICATION

Certified in both disciplines.

Facial plastic surgery sits at the intersection of two specialties, and Dr. Banthia is board-certified in both. The head and neck certification reflects training in the function and anatomy of the region — the breathing component of a rhinoplasty, the structures beneath a facelift — and the facial plastic certification reflects training in aesthetic facial surgery. A rhinoplasty that also has to correct a breathing problem draws on both.

Dr. Banthia's work outside the practice has been in teaching, research, and surgical care for patients who could not otherwise reach it.

He has lectured internationally on facial and cosmetic surgery, presenting his techniques in minimally invasive and laser surgery to plastic surgeons, facial plastic surgeons, and dermatologists. His peer-reviewed research is indexed in the National Library of Medicine.

He received the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery's Humanitarian Travel Award for joining a surgical team performing pro bono cleft lip, cleft palate, and microtia surgery in Honduras. He is also a co-founder of ZendyHealth, a platform built to make cosmetic and dental pricing legible to patients before they book.

Before returning to Southern California, he served as Medical Director of Reviance Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Center in Silicon Valley, where he developed minimally invasive facial techniques designed to shorten recovery for patients who could not afford extended downtime.
